The BARBADOS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (BIFF) is set amidst endless sandy beaches and rich Caribbean tradition. The Festival puts emphasis on the discovery of film works by new talent and emerging filmmakers that embody the imagination, boldness and the fresh spirit of independent film.
BIFF will play host to a number of elegant and vibrant events, including Opening Night, red-carpet Awards and Closing Night Galas, screenings and World Premieres, taking place at idyllic locations across the island.
Special Jury prizes and awards will be presented to winners in a number of categories. The Best International Feature will earn $15,000, Best International Documentary gets $5,000, and Best International Short will garner $1500. Best Actor and Best Actress will also receive $1,500 each, while Best International Director receives $2,500.
Attending filmmakers, producers, directors, buyers, and sales agents will also have an opportunity to meet key industry at the inaugural Barbados Film Market. The inaugural BFM is slated to take place at Sherbourne Conference Centre on December 5-7, during the first few days of the Festival.
MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
The Barbados International Film Festival brings together the best of the world's cinema and international film culture. The goal is to provide a major showcase for the exhibition of Latin America, Caribbean and world wide independent film.
BIFF's International Jury is headed by Judy Gladstone, the Executive Director of Bravo!FACT, a foundation established to assist Canadian talent and one of the largest funds behind short films. The Jury is rounded out by members Laurie Kirby (Executive Director, Ojai Film Festival), Piedad Palacios (President of BTG Productions and Special Projects Representative for the Motion Picture Association), and Neil Edwards, Senior Director with the Ministry of the Attorney General, Ontario Human Rights Commission in Canada.
The Festival has various partners, including the local tourism board, The Barbados Tourism Authority. The BTA recently won two of the UK's most prestigious travel awards for the exceptional work it does in the UK market, at the World Travel Market in London.
